About Me
Hello, and thank you for visiting! I’m Dr. Helyne Frederick-Price, a proud native of Grenada with a passion for promoting healthy futures for youth and families. I am a Certified Family Life Educator with over 14 years of experience as a professor of family science and leader in higher education.
I currently serve as Professor and Program Director of Human Development and Family Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
My research and teaching center on themes of human development, family health, and career development. My research on women's sexual health and family relationships have been published widely in leading journals such as the Journal of Family Issues, Journal of Sex Research, Sociology of Race and Ethnicity, and Ethnicity & Health.
I am passionate about helping families and communities thrive. With expertise in human development, family science, and community health, I bring both heart and evidence-based insight to every space and activity. My work centers on building connections, fostering resilience, and promoting growth across generations.
Outside of my university role, I want to partner with families, schools, and community organizations to create programs that: empower youth to embrace their strengths and lead with confidence, support parents with practical tools and insights to guide their children’s growth, and equip educators with strategies to create inclusive, developmentally supportive classrooms.
Whether it is through leading a workshop, consulting with organizations, or speaking at events, my desire to inspire others to learn, connect, and lead with purpose. My mission is simple but powerful — to help people show up as their best selves at home, in school, and in their communities.
