Dr. Helyne Frederick is currently a faculty member in the UNC School of Education, and directs the undergraduate program in Human Development and Family Science (HDFS). She is passionate about helping students and professionals maximize their skills in providing services for children and families. She previously served as an Associate Professor and Program Director for the Family and Consumer Sciences Program at Winthrop University in South Carolina. She developed an HDFS program for Winthrop and led the program to obtain the Certified Family Life Educator credential from the National Council on Family Relations. Dr. Frederick also directs the HDFS internships at UNC which places students in educational, health, and social services organizations.

Hello, and thank you for visiting! I’m Dr. Helyne Frederick-Price, a proud native of Grenada with a passion for promoting healthy futures for youth and families. I am a Certified Family Life Educator with over 13 years of experience as a professor of family science and leader in higher education.

Helyne Frederick honored by National Council on Family Relations
The National Council on Family Relations has named faculty member Helyne Frederick as the 2020 recipient of its Certified Family Life Education Special Recognition Award. Frederick was honored in recognition of her outstanding service to the council’s CFLE program.
Helyne Frederick wins public service award
Faculty member Helyne Frederick, program director of the Human Development and Family Studies program, has been awarded the Office of the Provost Award for Partnership, one of Carolina’s annual Public Service Awards. Frederick was one of 11 individuals and one organization to be recognized for outstanding contributions to the campus and the community.
HDFS program recognized with CFLE certification
The School of Education’s Human Development and Family Studies program has received certification from the National Council on Family Relations, which provides the program’s graduates access to provisional certification as Certified Family Life Educators.
